Our Vision: A thriving humanity on a safe, habitable planet
Our Mission: To build an international civil society movement to put a proposal for an Earth System Treaty to the UN General Assembly.
To promulgate the ideal of Earth Citizenship.
The Earth Systems Treaty is the agreement humans must have, if we are to avoid or limit the consequences of the many catastrophic risks we have created to our future. It provides:
· A legal instrument to set binding planetary boundaries, improve global governance and integrate response to catastrophic threats.
· A symbolic rallying point for thousands of organisations and millions of individuals already working to secure a liveable future.
· A first-of-its-kind instrument inviting all humans to voluntarily commit, as ‘Earth Citizens’, to a peaceful, thriving future on a habitable Planet.
· A first step towards global democracy.
Earth Citizens are all those who commit themselves to working towards the goal of a thriving humanity on a safe, habitable Earth for our children and grandchildren. They are all those who identify as ‘one people on one planet’.
This project is a vital first step. The initial aim is to build a worldwide alliance of civil society organisations, starting in Australia, New Zealand and Canada (ANZaC), to become that movement and to identify a government willing to champion the Treaty within the UN.
By addressing all the main risks to humanity, the Treaty is the foundation stone for a global Plan of Action to curb the threats, restore the planet and secure a thriving future for our children.
It is also the first ever instrument in world history which invites all the Earth’s people, as individuals, to voluntarily commit themselves to the aim of a peaceful, thriving humanity on a habitable planet. It is thus a first step towards a global people's democracy.
To develop a unified global response to collapse and extinction-level threats by building and deploying a dedicated alliance to alert and synchronize governments, organizations and the UN behind the Earth Systems Treaty as a highly visible global rallying point for a safer more sustainable future.
This will help to turn today’s countless well-intentioned but fragmented efforts into powerful coordinated action for planetary survival and thriving.
It will address the very real danger that solving global threats one at a time only makes other threats worse.
The project will begin by inviting appropriate organisations in Australia, Canada and New Zealand to become core participants.
To expand the alliance to likeminded organisations worldwide and embark on global awareness raising of the role of the Treaty and Earth Citizenship.
We do not intend to create a new organisation - but rather help to bring many well-intentioned and likeminded groups into constellation around key goals, for the universal good of both planet and people.
